What is God doing in your life?

I am blessed beyond measure. My children are all precious gems, my husband is a godly, encouraging man, and I have eternity with Christ as my end. The Lord has been so good to me!

Maybe He does this for you, too: for several months at a time, He seems to impress on me certain themes, usually through preaching and life in general. One of the things that He has been teaching me over the last 8 months has been that my position is in Christ.

I am a mother. But my children will grow up and I will no longer "mother" them as I do now. I am a wife. But Keith could die before me. I will no longer be a wife. But I am forever Christ's. As the song goes, "no power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand." Paul puts it this way: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8. 38, 39)

Another thing pressing hard on my thoughts is to pray for my children. My goal in raising them is to see them pursue God with all their hearts. With that in mind, I try to make everything I do push them in that direction. I cannot save them or change their hearts of stone to hearts of flesh, but I can live my life in such a way that they cannot help but see the gospel. Keith has a great post on his blog that we almost could have written ourselves (he quotes from another dad's blog).

girltalk has this quote posted and I feel the same way as Spurgeon's mother:

The mother of famous nineteenth-century pastor Charles Spurgeon was an example of a woman who aggressively sought to bring her children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Her son wrote of her:
“I cannot tell how much I owe to the solemn words of my good mother….I remember on one occasion her praying thus: ‘Now, Lord, if my children go on in their sins, it will not be from ignorance that they perish, and my soul must bear a swift witness against them at the day of judgment if they lay not hold of Christ.’”

I want my children to be able to recognize the sin in their hearts. I can't tell you what a gift it is to look into my own heart and see how black and wicked it is - its a gift because then I can repent! If I think that I have no sin, I have no reason to repent.

I was dead in my transgressions and sin, following the ways of this world, gratifying the cravings of my sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. I was an object of wrath. But because God is so merciful, and because of His great love, He made me alive with Christ, even when I was dead. It's by grace that I've been saved from death! I couldn't have wanted Christ - my nature and bent was to sin. I wanted no part of anything that wasn't sinful. But God saved me, not because of righteous things that I had done, but because of His mercy. He saved me through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit whom He poured out on me generously through Jesus Christ my Savior. What a horrible, wretched, beautiful, amazing thing the cross is! He who knew no sin became sin so that I would not have to suffer the punishment that I deserved.

Do you have the same story that I have?
